happy halloween

Friday, October 29, 2010

Happy Halloween Everybody! Do you have your costumes yet... do they need any tweaking? I am going to be Snow White. I already went to one Halloween gathering and a little girl was convinced I was the real thing and asked if she could"meet me." Kids are so fun and cute!  I fell in love with this little illustration from Heidi Burton. I hope you have a fun filled weekend.

wall of little pumpkins

Tuesday, October 26, 2010

I saw this wall of little pumpkins via flickr and fell in love. I think this would be the most interesting backdrop for a dessert bar or anywhere outside with all your halloween decor.

varsity soccer cupcake toppers

Monday, October 25, 2010

I made these for a client a couple days ago... Everyone loved them! She took them to their dinner the night before the final game. Also, you could take them to the final game. I packaged them in white boxes so it was easy to transport. I think they turned out perfect! These will be available in the Wants and Wishes Etsy shop soon.

brownie mint oreo icecream cupcake

Thursday, October 21, 2010

When I saw these mint oreo icecream cupcakes... I knew I had found a winner! Don't they look divine!!!! I love mint and chocolate together. It has a brownie base (another favorite I can't resist) with mint icecream piled high. Right before serving add whipcream, then drizzle some fudge sauce and add a mint oreo and candle (which are Walmart... yes these same ones for only $1.99). For Erica's recipe visit Erica Sweet Tooth here!
These would be great for a birthday or halloween and what is great about this recipe is it can be made way ahead of time!

pumpkin house

Wednesday, October 20, 2010

I love these pictures. They give just a magical feeling of fall. This is were I would go to select my pumpkin that I would carve. I just arrived in Utah and am getting in the fall mood instantly, with the leaves changing and crisp air. Living in Southern California you just don't get the autumn/ fall season. I miss it!!! I guess I will have to live through these beautiful pictures.

Don't you love this house! I do! I think it is adorable.

Halloween Treats

Monday, October 18, 2010

Wants and Wishes has been extremely busy in the kitchen. Multiple parties with a guitar cake, baby's first punching cake, cupcakes and cookies galore! So I apologize for abandoning you, but my time has been spent in the kitchen these days instead of on my laptop... oh how I have missed it and you!

So I'm sure you are all getting the final details ready for your Halloween parties and gatherings. Today I will show you some of my favorite Halloween sweets that will make any trick or treater squeal with delight!

Wants and Wishes Tip: I know these are little cakes but if you are running out of time... I think ding dongs would work just as good. Just whip up some frosting in different colors and you can make your own mini Halloween cakes in no time. This would also be a fun project/ craft for a Halloween party.

Now for a few treats that aren't so sweet, but would still be fun at you Halloween bash!

Halloween decor

Thursday, October 7, 2010

Now lets get back to Halloween decorating fun. There is still alot of work to do and things to prepare. Here are some fun inspirations on how to transform your house for the halloween!
This is a simple and inexpensive way to bring down your ceiling. Hang plastic trick or treat lanterns from the ceiling at varying heights. Pictured above are those typical plastic pumpkin pails... just spray paint them the color of your event or multiple colors. The possibilities are endless. If you are getting really adventures you can cut out the face of the jack-o-lantern and place a battery operated candle and light your party by hanging jack-o-lanterns.

Transform your windows this Halloween season by adding "temporary" valences and molding to your windows or you can make these crepe paper curtains. Both would be perfect for the Halloween season.

dinosaur birthday party

Wednesday, October 6, 2010

We interrupt this Halloween inspiration for a dinosaur inspiration board.  One of my readers, Jann {hi Jann} asked what I would do for a dinosaur birthday party for her little boy. It spark something... so many people are seeking inspiration for a particular birthday party theme- so I'm starting a new series. Simply email me if you are seeking inspiration for a particular party theme and I will do the research and post it up on my blog.... so ask away.

These are my findings for a dinosaur party.

option A:: I would do these invitations available in our shop (it also comes in a purple & green color scheme)

option B:: Have your little guy draw a dinosaur for each of his guest, inviting him to come to his dinosaur party!

I would make these dinosaur cupcakes or you could put a mini dinosaur on top for an older crowd or for those who don't want to create dinosaurs from hand...

I would also make these fossil dinosaur cookies

On the tables I would have these dinosaur terrariums.

{favors + activities}
I would make these dinosaurs in a rock. You can either make them at the party and have your guest take them home to dry or have them already made and have each kid break one open and discover what's inside.

I would give these crayon dinosaurs as a favor. Aren't they soooo cool. (I know I sound like a kid, but I fell in love with them when I saw. They are a must have for sure!!! I want! I want! I want!)

A ghoulish halloween night

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

I just love the feeling of this photo... isn't it the perfect ghoul halloween night with the dusty blue/grey sky lit by the warm orange glow of lanterns strung from spooky twig trees. You could recreate this look easily for Halloween night! All your friends and neighbors would be enchanted as they walked up to your home. The outside is the first place to start your atmosphere.

Don't you love the dark grey spiderweb cheesecloth draped over the window.... It adds so much to the ambience. You could also make a garland of crows (which would be easier to hang up!)

Halloween planning begins!

Friday, October 1, 2010

So the festivities begin.... your Halloween decorations come down from the attic and out of your cupboards. Now the decision you have to make is which way are you going this year with you Halloween decor. Are you have a Spooktacular Mansion, A Vampire Dungeon or a Upscale Classic Halloween.
Photos from WantsandWishes
Halloween doesn't have to be difficult. This is a very simple display with a big effect. Find some candles or even plastic pumpkin (these pumpkin candles are 12" wide and 12" tall and the 18" tall). Find a low platter or tray and fill with fun seasonal candy like candy corn or the pumpkin candy corn or even orange gumballs.... and then your finished. Put next to a lit tree and you have your entry way done or part of your desert table complete!
